What is a phobia?

A phobia is an irrational, uncontrollable fear triggered by a situation in which you are confronted with the object of your fear, or by the thought of finding yourself in a dangerous situation. A phobia is the expression of an anxiety disorder.

What are the most common phobias?

hypnose phobie

Arachnophobia

It’s the fear of spiders or the mere thought of running into one or seeing one in a photo.

Agoraphobia

It’s the fear of being trapped in open spaces. For example, being in the middle of a crowd and not being able to escape or be rescued.

Claustrophobia

It’s the fear of closed spaces that you can’t get out of: airplanes, elevators, small rooms…

Hypochondria

The sickly fear of having a serious illness. Obsession can lead to daily scrutiny of the body, and alarm when a new sensation or spot appears. This means consulting several doctors in succession, sometimes at the same time, or not consulting at all for fear of the diagnosis.

Social phobia

It’s the fear of being judged, observed and humiliated, of feeling insecure in the presence of others.

Hemophobia

This is the fear of blood, which can lead to reactions such as nausea, dizziness, fainting or extreme anxiety when a person is exposed to the sight or thought of blood.

Thanatophobia

Thanatophobia is an intense, irrational fear of death or dying.

Mysophobia

It’s the fear of germs, bacteria and so on. The obsessive fear of being contaminated almost always leads to cleanliness habits: cleaning your hands as soon as you touch an object, cleaning everything with disinfectant…

Emetophobia

Emetophobia is the fear of vomiting or of seeing someone else vomit.

Acrophobia

It’s a fear of heights and heights of space.

What causes a phobia?

The origin is multifactorial. The genetic factor is being studied. Research is focusing on the mechanisms at work among members of the same family. Some people are predisposed from birth to developing a phobia. While phobias and anxiety in general are passed down through the genes, life experience is also about learning by repeating what we experience as witnesses, and which is inscribed in us like a program.

A parent with phobic reactions can pass on their phobias to their child. If a mother panics when she sees a spider, her child understands that the spider is very dangerous and should be feared beyond what is normal. He can develop the same behaviors.

Trauma is a trigger. Any context that recalls the traumatic situation triggers a defense mechanism to avoid reliving the initial trauma. This protection is phobia.

Symptoms: how do you know when you have a phobia?

These are the same as anxiety attacks, or even panic attacks: accelerated heart rate, sweating, nausea, dizziness, etc.

Hypnosis to overcome and heal your fears

Hypnosis enables you to deprogram inadequate defense mechanisms and replace them with more environmentally-friendly ones. Use your imagination to transform the object of your fear into a state of altered consciousness. The hypnotherapist guides you through the hypnotic state, enabling you to adopt more appropriate behavior, using certain phrases to anchor calm.

Why is hypnosis effective in treating phobias?

It’s the patient’s state of relaxation that helps anchor the new behavior with appropriate suggestions. Experiencing a situation under hypnosis is a lure for the brain, and the body responds positively to suggestions. According to phobias and
generalized anxiety
it will take several sessions for the new behaviours to become integrated.. Phobia can become a normal fear which will lead you to simply avoid danger, or to reduce yourself to the slight stress that’s possible to live with.

Hypnosis is also a very good way to help a person suffering from this malaise.

How does a hypnotherapy session work?

The session begins with a hypnotic induction to enable the person to enter a deeper and deeper state of calm by slowing down the rhythm of brain waves. The voice plays just as important a role in inducing this state as the sentences spoken.

Once the person has entered this hypnotic sleep, the unconscious mind is open and ready to receive suggestions. Visualization or other channels, such as hearing or feeling, are used so that everything is experienced as if it were real, without the fear or problem behavior. Awakening takes place at the same time as the suggestions are anchored.
